Growing up in South East Asia, I've constantly been bombarded with the message that Chinese/White/Malay-Mixed is the only way you can be beautiful. No one seemed to look like me in the magazines, on TV and in the movies. Everyone seemed to look at brown skin as if it were some sort of obstacle to overcome.
It's a different story in India. Indian girls are on every magazine cover, bus stand and bilboard.Here, the beautiful girl is the one with brown skin. Sure, there is the obession with becoming fair (I hate those fair and lovely commercials!!!). But things are definitely changing in India. I've seen a fair number of darker (but extremely beautiful) girls on TV as an Image of beauty.
And whats best is that.... FINALLY, I can find a suitable shade of foundation for me at Guardian!!!! YAY
